Aaaahhh, starting to feel like home...

Yesterday was a momentous day. It was the day we finally mowed our lawn that obviously hadn't seen a mower in 4, 5, 6?? weeks. The grass was literally 6-7 inches tall. This was probably a calculated effort to hide the months of dog poop littering the yard. Dennis and the kids FILLED a large plastic shopping bag...can you say YUCK??
**
We hired our nephew, Jake, to come out and do the job. Is that bad?? Have we arrived at a bad place when we hire kids to do jobs we just really don't want to do??? He filled 9 32-gallon garbage bags with grass. NINE!! Never mind the fact that our lawn mower literally went up in smoke (after doing the front and side yard)...he came back a little later with their family's lawn mower and finished the job. All I can say is that this is the best $20 we've ever spent! After writing this post I'm thinking we need to slide Jake another $10 or so.

We have some tragic moving news. For those of you familiar with our wonderful green microfiber furniture, brace yourselves. The sofa does not fit down our basement stairs. TRAGEDY!! That leaves us in a serious quandary. At this point the sofa is wrapped in plastic out in our garage. Do we really have to get rid of it? Or do you think we can do most of our entertaining out in the garage?? I think we could make it work. There is a fridge out there, after all.

And lastly, I just have to tell you that we have some of the friendliest neighbors ever! There are 6 houses in our cul-de-sac and we have now met Bob (across the street...he told us that he loves our house), Kathy and Tom (retirees living in a 6000 sq. ft. home), Greg (Dennis thinks he might be Indian...that's all we really know except that he drives a very nice red Volvo), Don and...shoot, I can't remember his wife's name (they live next door and have a little boy named Jack who is Taryn's age), and lastly...the only neighbors we haven't met, Mike and Michael who own the most expensive house on the cul-de-sac. They told us they're going to have a cul-de-sac barbecue soon to really welcome us. Oh, and since we so easily see into the yard behind us, it's a family with 5 kids ranging in age from 5-18. The dad is an orthopedic surgeon and they've already decided that we are going to be great friends.

That is it...someday I'll find the camera cables and be able to post some great pictures!

Could you do some re-arranging and put the green couches somewhere else...like the living room? I think I've told you that we ended up with our bedroom airmoire in the dining room in this house. They also didn't fit up the stairs...that is a bummer!

Yay for nice neighbors. They can make or break a move. Good luck settling in!

Did Val guilt you into blogging? I was so excited to see that you blogged too! I'm sorry that your couch doesn't fit down the stairs!

We did do some rearranging...the loveseat is in the living room but it's really small and only fits the one piece. Do you think furniture is easier to sell (if it comes to that) as a set?? BTW Valerie--your quilt still looks beautiful on our other sofa.

Janyse, I couldn't tell from the pictures that your house was on a football field... 9 trash cans worth of grass! You should sign that nephew to a long-term contract immediately!
As for the sofa... Just make the stairs/door wider. You are going to have to make the renovations anyway to get the pool table down there.
And did I read that correctly "Mike & Michael?" Just checking.

I'm not worried about the quilt...those were just some nice couches. And you worked so hard to get them replaced, etc., etc. It
would be sad to see them go.

I think you'd be able to sell just the one piece, esp. if you didn't ask all that much...

We've had a new idea...it would literally be cheaper to have the basement window replaced with one that allows the couch through than to buy new sofas. What do you think? And yes, Matt, you read correctly...Mike and Michael. And we thought we were leaving Eugene behind. =)

Such a great update! I've been hungry for a new blog on your site and to hear how everything was going.
Hmmm...moving this couch of yours sounds like quite a chore. But nice furniture is hard to come by so if you like it, I would definately go for the new window option and keep it.
