Our Newest Addition...
So, this might come as a shock for all of you who know me, but there is a new member of our family. We've struggled for quite a while with the 3rd child dilemma and then had a solution (sort of) come out of thin air. Okay, so this doesn't really solve the dilemma, but here's the story....and some pictures.

We have a great friend, Kristi, who lives in Eugene. (She is David's wife--see the previous post.) Anyway, she is a specialty vet who knew we were thinking about a pet for the kids for Christmas. Jackson is CONSTANTLY drawing pictures of frogs and writing stories about how he's getting 10 frogs for Christmas. We were thinking about a turtle, maybe a cat...??? Well, an opportunity fell into her lap and she thought of us. A former client who had gotten a new puppy (purebred, at that) felt they could no longer keep him and needed to find him a good home. Though there were people vying for him, we had the inside track and Kristi gave us the choice first. It only took a night of discussion to decide that we would take him! Are you shocked??? WE HAVE A DOG!! ME!!! So, let me introduce you to Otter!
Otter was born on July 14th (and he'll expect lots of presents) and so is currently 5 months old. He came house-trained (which was one of the things that swayed me) and he loves the snow!! Good thing, too!
**
He came already knowing how to sit, shake, kind of lay down, and just look at you with big eyes that say, "Aren't I just adorable??? Don't you want to feed me or at least give me a treat??" I swear, that's what they say!! And most of the time I give in...he's just that cute.
As an added benefit, Otter forces Dennis and I to exercise. Dennis takes him out for bike rides almost every night and I take him for walks, make him chase me around the backyard, and wrestle with him frequently. Sometimes I win, and sometimes he wins.
**
I discovered the hard way that Otter has a fettish for blonde hair. I took him out for a ride on Dennis' bike and he took me for a short ride into the concrete. It wasn't pretty. And if that wasn't enough, the second my hair was within his reach he was on top of my head mauling it. If anyone had seen it, they would still be laughing!!
As for the kids, they are in 7th heaven! Jackson loves to lay on Otter's bed with Otter wrapped around him. Taryn loves to play tug of war with one of the many toys and ropes that came along with him.

I'm sorry, I didn't see the picture of Otter mauling your head! Can you have Dennis ready with a camera and go and reproduce the story so you can publish a picture? There's money in it for you! $$$
Otter is adorable. Can't wait to meet him in person in late January. But you are right--it is difficult to imagine YOU, Janyse, with a dog.
Wow, I thought you having a dog was a joke for the last few weeks, you swore there would be pictures... now I believe that you have a dog named Otter... or Beaver, does Taryn still call him that? And I would like to see a picture of Otter mauling your head. It sounds interesting.
Otter is a cutie. He looks like he'll be pretty big! Can't wait to see him grow.
I love the name "Otter" that you gave him. What an adorable dog. How much fun that will be! :)
Do you make Dennis walk him at night?
Oh wait...you answered that question already. :) I must pay more attention.
That is so fun! I'm glad that we don't live too close or Tanner would be relentless in advocating a dog for us, or he would decide to come live with you -- just what you need - a twin for Jackson! We just have to enjoy dogs from a distance!~
Sorry Adam...no chance. That was an expensive spill. I ripped a hole in my last nice pair of jeans and my knee is still healing. I truly haven't taken him for a ride since then...my one and only bike ride. Maybe in the future...
I have been so looking forward to this post. I must say, it did not disappoint. I am sorry that you had such a close encounter with the concrete, but imagining the dog mauling your head, and you losing a wrestling match with the dog both had me laughing out loud. Thanks Janyse. Oh and by the way, I think frogs would be good too. I mean, you wouldn't want Otter to get lonely. Of course, there is the question of what you would name the frogs, and if there were multiples...? Let's say you had 3 frogs--can at least one of them be named Chicken?
Where the jeans one of your gifts for your birthday this year? Looks like Santa may be bringing some more for you in a few days? Do you share and go along with the "Santa" theme in your home?
Otter is soooo cute! I can't wait until we are done with apartment living so we can get a dog. Thanks for the letter. You should check out our blog.
We are all begging for an update!
Do you still update this blog? You should. This is Pete Broadbent, from your freshman ward at BYU. How are you?
