A book recommendation...got one for me??

So, after a very rough week that, among other things, involved putting on a Visiting Teaching Social, a triple layer cheesecake, a pirate, a fairy and massive research into the life of John Lathrop, I rewarded my successful event with a book. Please forgive me...whoever you are...who recommended The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I think it was Melissa....or maybe Gabe. To whoever it was, THANK YOU!! This was such a great book! I was bitterly disappointed to get online and discover that this is her first book. Instead of having several more to read...I am forced to wait!

This book was one that forced me to call my mom and tell her she needed to read it...but since Nauvoo's library is notoriously lacking, she'd have to go buy it. I was shocked that this book made me feel some of the same things I felt when I read Little Women. I love that book! Both books made me laugh, cry and devour them. So--take it for what it's worth--this book receives the Janyse Frerichs seal of approval. I recommend it to all.

I am now in search of more great books. Anyone got anything worth reading?? And yes, I have read the Twilight Series. I loved them. Even if you are a stranger who is reading this blog (or a blog stalker as my niece calls herself), if you have a book to recommend, I'd love to hear about it.

The Update: So, it was Melissa that recommended the book. I thought I'd throw in a word of caution since she mentioned that it was a little darker than Jane Eyre or something of that genre. This book is a very well told story, but the story might not be for everyone. I love the sentence on the inside cover that says this books is "a love letter to reading, a book for the feral reader in all of us..." The comparison to Little Women is due to the "sister" theme throughout the book. I still loved it...

Ooo, that looks good (I'm judging this book by it's cover). ;) I'll have to pick it up and read it. Well...I have to admit I just finished the book 1776, and think it's wonderfully written. Granted, it's a history book, but he really does a good job getting into the details of the revolutionary war, and it reads much more like a captivating novel than a textbook. So if you haven't already read it, I definately recommend it.

I know I've already said this on my blog, but if you didn't read Crow Lake by Mary Lawson, it's great. I also am halfway through The Glass Castle. Talk about a world we know NOTHING about, gratefully. Some scary stuff, but VERY interesting.

one of my favorites: Follow the River by James Alexander Thom ( i think that's his name). It's historical fiction and a story of survival...AMAZING!

Hey it's me, you're favorite blog stalker :) But it's not stalking since I'm family, right? One of my favorite books is Snow Flower and the Secret Fan written by Lisa See. It's not the typical romance story that I know you love so much but it's worth the read.

What genre would you like? I know that will be Gabe's first question. Although, she's currently off reading and on cleaning. So I don't know if she will have any new recommendations.
I was reading Team of Rivals about Abraham Lincoln. It's pretty dry reading, but fascinating stuff if you have the stamina for it. Obviously I didn't because I started it, but didn't finish. In my defense the book got borrowed from me almost immediately after I checked it out and then I had to return it because there were several requests for the book.
